Gallant and True
A multimedia for-profit zine set in the world of Arthurian Legend! Applications full, now in deliberation stage.
Gallant and True is a for-profit multimedia zine set in the vast world of Arthurian legend— tales of bravery, perilous quests, encounters with the strange and arcane. Most of us are familiar with King Arthur and his Roundtable, the Holy Grail and the wise wizard Merlin. We hope not only to explore these stories and characters but the many tales surrounding them as well, whether that be entirely fresh reinterpretations of previous legend or faithful adaptations of the original text.Contributors may also redraw well known works based on the legend, such as paintings by the Pre-Raphaelites or Illuminated Manuscripts. We want a wide breadth of content and hope to include pieces from illustrators, comic artists, and writers. Gallant and True is not restricted by style or time period, but it is inspired by clear source material. The goal is simply for readers to be able to recognize key figures and events from the legends, but is by no means limited to a classical or semi realistic approach. We hope you’ll join our merry crew!

SUBMISSIONS ARE CLOSED—Make sure sharing is turned on for all links (an easy way to test this is by opening them using an incognito tab). We will not be contacting you if your links are faulty.—All pieces (with the exception of artistic nudity) MUST be Safe For Work. Do NOT include lewd material in your samples or extended portfolio.—Please include three strong examples that align with the work you aim to do for the zine. If you want to do something like merch or a spot illustration in addition to a full piece, include examples of them in at least one of your samples.—Illustration samples should include a strong sense of color and composition, as well as solid form and anatomy (depending on your stylistic approach).—Examples that include a full scene (characters, props, environments) are highly encouraged as the zine is focused on narrative illustration.—Comics should display a strong sense of composition and color. While lettering is not a requirement, all samples should showcase competent storytelling and a good sense of flow across the page.—Traditional pieces must be properly scanned and edited.—Including an extended portfolio is highly encouraged.—If you intend to do poetry, provide poetry examples. If you want to do a short story, provide short stories, etc. In short, provide relevant examples!—Writing samples should be your strongest work.—While it is not a requirement, it is highly encouraged that you include works within fantasy and folklore genres, as that is primarily what the zine will be focusing on.—No sample over 2000 words.—No lewd material or otherwise pornographic content.
